The Service Voucher

You can apply for a service voucher from the city of Vantaa with the electronic day care application at vantaa.fi or with a paper application, which can be delivered to the day care office or a private service voucher day care provider. In addition to the service voucher, you also need to apply for a day care place with the private day care provider's own application form. The service voucher is income-based, however, the monthly day care fee cannot be more than 30 € larger than the comparable fees in municipal day care.

The voucher enables more extensive use of private day care services. Families can choose a day care place among the service voucher day care centers which are approved by the city. The voucher is income-related, which means that the family's income affects the value of the service voucher and the family's own contribution of the fee. If you have a service voucher, you are not entitled to the private day care allowance or the child home care allowance. Families that need full-time day care because of work or studying can apply for service voucher for full-time care.

How to apply for a service voucher for private day care?

1. Find out the day care options

You can read more about the service voucher day care centers and their fees at vantaa.fi. When you find a suitable day care place, contact the day care center and check whether there are places available.

2. Apply for the service voucher

You can apply for the service voucher with an electronic day care application. You can also deliver the application to the day care office (Asematie 10, 01300 Vantaa) or to the service voucher day care center. Mark the envelope with the word "service voucher". With the same day care application, you can apply for the service voucher and to municipal day care, in order of preference. Mark the alternative types of day care with numbers 1-5 in order of preference. For instance, if your most preferred choice is the service voucher for private day care center, mark it number 1.

3. Decision on the service voucher

Early childhood education manager makes the decision on the service voucher. A written deci-sion is delivered to you by mail or to your Citizen's account, if you have one.

4. Child care agreement with service voucher day care centers

After receiving the decision on the service voucher, you can conclude the child care agree-ment, including appendices, with the service voucher day care center.

5. Decision on the value of the service voucher

The day care center delivers the appendices of the child care agreement to the day care office (add. Asematie 10, 01300 Vantaa) before the child begins day care. The envelope is marked with the word "service voucher". In order to determine the value of the service voucher, you also need to deliver your income statement to the day care office by the 20th day of the month day care was begun. Use the same application form for reporting the income and determining the day care fee. If you have stated in your application that you agree to the smallest value of the service voucher, you do not have to provide the income statement.

When the appendices of the child care agreement and the income statement have been deliv-ered to the day care office, you will receive a written decision about the service voucher's val-ue by mail. The day care center is provided with a written notification of the service voucher's value, excluding the guardians' income data. The day care service provider defines the day care fee for the child based on the value of the service voucher. The guardians and the day care service provider make an agreement on the day care fee and the payment terms.

6. Starting day care

The child starts attending day care in accordance with the child care agreement.

The Value of the Service Voucher

The service voucher is child-specific. The value of the service voucher is determined by the child's age, size of the family, family's gross earnings, and the hours of day care stated in the child care agreement between the family and the day care service provider. Municipal day care has a sibling discount which also concerns the service voucher. You can evaluate your service voucher's value with a calculator.

Service Voucher Calculator

  1. First, evaluate your child's municipal day care fee with the day care fee calculator. If your child will attend day care 12 days a month, select 9 for the number of days of absence.
  2. Then, select in the calculator
  • your child's age
  • daily hours of day care (for under 3-year-old's only full-time care)
  • number of days in day care per month (up to 12 days/month or over 12 days/month)
  • type down the amount of your municipal day care fee
  • The calculator gives you the estimated value of your service voucher. Keep in mind that the final value is determined by the income statement and the child care agreement that you have to deliver to the day care office.
