The City of Vantaa is responsible for providing day care for Vantaa children under school age. If necessary, the City of Vantaa may purchase day care services from private day care entrepreneurs. In such cases, day care will be provided for children based on a decision by the relevant City of Vantaa authorities and a monthly fee for children's day care will be determined in compliance with the law on payments for social welfare and health services.
Families can choose to place their children in private day care instead of municipal day care. The City of Vantaa supports private day care by paying private day care allowance and, additionally, home care support for children's day care. Private day care allowance can be paid immediately after the parental allowance period has ended. Home care allowance and private day care allowance cannot be received simultaneously.
If a family decides to place its children under school age into private day care, the family is entitled to the statutory private day care allowance and the income-adjusted care supplement. Families must apply for this allowance and supplement, but these are paid directly to the provider of the day care services.

Private day care allowance and the City of Vantaa's home care support are applied for via Kela (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland). Kela pays the private day care allowance and the City of Vantaa's home care support directly to the provider of private day care. A private day care allowance will be paid for part-time private day care of 6-year-olds participating in pre-school education and 7-year-olds whose school entry has been postponed, if the children participate in pre-school education in day care or at school, in addition to the private care. In addition to the statutory private day care allowance, the City of Vantaa will pay home care support for part-time private day care for each child, if these children also participate in pre-school education.
The following monthly allowances and supplements are paid for each child of pre-school age: private day care allowance, care supplement and the City of Vantaa's home care support .
The family is responsible for paying the provider of private day care the part of the day care fees that is not covered by the above allowances and supplements.
The statutory part of the private day care allowance is applied for via Kela. The City of Vantaa's home care support is applied for from the City of Vantaa with a form which is available in the city districts' day care offices and at the Citizens' offices.
