Assessment of Service Need

An assessment of service need includes

  • determining an elderly customer’s need for support and services
  • guidance on different services that support wellbeing.

The assessment usually takes place at the customer's home, in the presence of the customer, their relative or friend, and a service counselor from a senior citizens' welfare clinic or another health and social welfare professional. The assessment covers the customer's background information, resources, state of health and functional abilities, social situation, relatives' or friends' participation in the customer's care, the customer's current services, as well as need for additional services. The purpose of additional services is to support the customer's independent living at home.

The assessment of service need can be requested by the customer, their relative or friend, an official, or another person.

If a customer already uses some services, the personnel responsible for the customer’s care will assess the service need.
