Screenings

Screenings are medical examinations aimed at the whole population or specific groups of people. The objective is to discover people who have symptomless diseases, diseases at a preliminary stage, or an increased risk of a disease.

Screenings are an important part in maintaining the population’s health and wellbeing. The objective of the screenings is to identify abnormalities and start treatment early and, thereby, improve the prognosis.

The city of Vantaa arranges the following screenings according to the national screening program¹:

Participation to screenings is voluntary. In order to make an informed decision on your participation, you should get enough information on the effectiveness, advantages, and disadvantages of the screening. The invitation includes additional information. You can also visit the counseling bureau (screenings during pregnancy) and the attached links for more information.

¹According to the Health Care Act, municipalities have to arrange screenings for its inhabitants in accordance with the national screening program defined in the Government Decree on Screenings (Health Care Act 1326/2010, Government Decree on Screenings 339/2011).

Mammogram

A mammogram screening is used to examine breasts, so that possible cancer would be found at an early stage. If breast cancer is discovered early, the prognosis is very good.

Screening invitations are sent to female residents aged 50–69. If you are in this age group, you will receive an invitation for a mammogram every two years.

In 2018, the invitations will be sent to female residents born in uneven years between 1950–1968. The invitations are sent via mail according to the information registered in the Population Information System.

Please note: If you have prohibited the disclosure of your data, your address information cannot be used, and you will not receive a screening invitation. In that case, you can make an appointment at Synlab on weekdays from 8:00 to 18:00 by calling 010 326 3260.
