Temporary residents' right to counseling clinic services

As a general rule, public health-care services are given to people whose place of domicile is Vantaa. Nevertheless, urgent treatment is given to everybody regardless of domicile. Situations requiring urgent treatment consist of acute illnesses and accidents.

People coming from the E.U./E.E.A. countries and Switzerland who temporarily reside in Finland also have the right to treatment related to pregnancy and childbirth.

Treatment is necessary when

1. A threatening, suspected or verified complication or acute illness related to pregnancy requires urgent assessment and/or treatment.

2. If there is cause to suspect that the welfare, growth or development of a child temporarily residing in Finland is affected by an illness.

  • Somatic and/or neurological tests are conducted at a health center, which also arranges the required care measures for the duration of the child's residence in Finland.

3. If there is cause to suspect that the welfare, growth or development of a child temporarily residing in Finland is or can be affected by a severe family situation.

  • Somatic and/or neurological tests are conducted at a health center. Health center also arranges the required care measures for the duration of the child's residence in Finland in cooperation with child welfare authorities.

Necessary health counseling shall be given by a counseling bureau according to customer plan.

When required, a health center can refer to a counseling bureau, for instance, a person for listening to fetus' heart sounds or an under-two-year-old child for height and weight measurements.

Foreign nationals temporarily residing in Finland can acquire in Finland normal pregnancy-related or age-group-specific maternity and child welfare clinic examinations and follow-up appointments if they have received a payment bond from their own county (E 106, E 109, E 112/S).
