Green area management:

Green Area Unit is responsible for maintaining the city-owned parks and urban green spaces designated in the local detailed plan. The acreage of these areas totals around 3 091 hectares, of which about 60% is park forest. The combined percentage of meadows and landscape fields is approximately 15%, while that of built green areas is around 25%.

Due to planning and the city's land acquisitions, the acreage of green areas grows steadily. Green Area Unit monitors this increase in area, structure, changes in management category, and equipment level with the help of the green-area register.

The city manages its green areas with the help of its own employees, but also buys work from subcontractors. For instance, Hakunila and Korso major regions are subcontracted, since the built green area in them totals around 190 hectares.
