Early childhood education fees fall as of the beginning of 2018
On December 8, 2017, the Parliament approved an amendment to the Act on Early Childhood Education Customer Fees.
The fees will fall as of January 2018. The fees of small- and medium-income families will fall and in the future another child’s sibling discount will be 50% instead of the present 10%.
The amount of the customer fee is based on the family size and income, as well as on the time spent in early childhood education. The income accounted for when determining the fee will remain the same. The maximum fee of early childhood education will remain at €290 and the lowest fee will also remain the same: in other words, fees below €27 will not be charged. The amendment will enter into force on January 1, 2018.
Vantaa Education Board handles the customer fees and decides on the income limits, payment percentages and fee for another child in its meeting on January 15, 2018. Families will in January be mailed a customer notice of future changes.
The change requires no action to be taken by families who will receive the new payment decision by the end of February by mail.
