Vantaa offers the fourth coronavirus vaccine to the elderly in home care or who have a caregiver, as well as to the elderly whose state of health and functional capacity have lowered to a significant extent. Extending the scope of the fourth COVID-19 vaccinations is based on the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare's (THL) new recommendation.

The fourth vaccine can be given, at the earliest, three (3) months after the third vaccine.

According to THL, the fourth vaccine aims to boost protection against severe coronavirus disease and, particularly, against the elderly's coronavirus-related deaths. Vaccinating the elderly with multiple disease and with a frail state of health requires case-specific consideration.

Vantaa residents can ask coronavirus vaccination points for advice, or, when required, contact health-care professionals by email: koronarokotus@vantaa.fi.

According to THL’s current estimate, the benefits from fourth vaccinations to the rest of the population are medically bigger, if they are administered at a later stage. The potential vaccination time is in the fall.

Three coronavirus vaccines give a good protection against severe coronavirus disease to under-80-year-olds and those who are basically healthy.
