The beginning of summer will be celebrated—as in the previous three years—in front of Vantaa City Hall (Asematie 7, Tikkurila) on Saturday, June 2, at 14, when the memorable Suvivirsi is jointly sung.

Already for decades, Suvivirsi has led Finns to the summer: it has been joyously sung in myriad spring festivals and events, praising sunshine, flowers, humming green-leaved trees, and chirping birds. The song has become part of Finnish cultural heritage and its message appeals to people of all ages. Vantaa’s Suvivirsi event is now arranged for the fourth time. Come and join the community singing and bring your entire family!

At the beginning of the event, chairman of the city council of Vantaa, Antti Lindtman, will welcome everybody to the event, and then Pastor Terhi Viljanen will convey the congregation's greetings.

The male choir Korson Mieslaulajat will lead the audience to singing the Suvivirsi song together. Vantaa Music Institute's brass band Vamos, conducted by Teemu Salmi, will accompany the choir. Words to the song will be handed out in the event, so that those who are only just learning the traditional words can wholeheartedly join in the singalong. A couple of verses will also be sung in Swedish.

At the end of the event, juice will be offered to the participants in front of Tikkurila’s old church.

Vantaa Cultural Services and Tikkurila Congregation arrange the event.
