Early childhood education as local service
Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen have concluded a new agreement on arranging early childhood education when a family moves from one contractual municipality to another.
As of August 1, 2018, early childhood education can be arranged in a child's former domicile at max. until the end of the fall or spring term following the child's move and at max. until the beginning of preschool education. A new temporary early-childhood-education decision will be drawn for these families. The agreement will not apply to around-the-clock care and private early childhood education.
Families that move shall account for the fact that free-of-charge early childhood education under 4 hours per day for 5-year-olds in Helsinki only applies to children living in Helsinki and attending early childhood education in Helsinki.
If the child has remained in early childhood education in his/her previous domicile before Aug. 1, 2018, his/her early childhood education can continue, based on an earlier agreement, until the beginning of preschool education.
Further information will be provided by directors of day-care centers.
