New first-graders’ and preschoolers’ enrollment in education begins

Children beginning their education shall enroll in school and preschool education as of January 7. The enrollment period lasts till January 24. Next fall, 2800 Vantaa school children and 2600 preschoolers will begin their school attendance.

Enroll in school over the Wilma system

During January, the City of Vantaa will send a letter about beginning school to the homes of all Vantaa children born in 2014. With the compulsory education notification, the families will receive identifiers to online enrollment in school at: https://vantaa.inschool.fi/connect.

Vantaa Infos will help you in online school enrollment and use of Wilma. In addition, support is provided in five other languages (Arabic, Albanian, Estonian, Russian, Somali). When you go to Vantaa Info, take with you the student-specific key code sent to you with the compulsory education notification or the Wilma identifier you created yourself. The decision on the local school will be published on Wilma on March 26, 2021, or sent to your home address.

Possibility of weighted-curriculum education

Children can take grades 1-6 in English, in Swedish-language immersion, or Montessori education You will find more information on the above at vantaa.fi and schools’ open information events.

A separate application for bilingual and Montessori education shall be returned by January 17, 2021, to the school applied for.

Enrollment in preschool education over VaSa service

You can enrol your child for pre-primary education electronically in the VaSa service.
You must log in to the service with the Suomi.fi identification method by using your online banking IDs, mobile certificate or certificate card. You can edit the enrolment after submitting it as well as track its process in the service.

If you cannot complete the enrolment electronically, you can also submit your enrolment on paper. You can fill in and print out the form from the website. A filled-in form can be returned to any municipal day care centre or sent to early childhood education at: Varhaiskasvatus, Esiopetukseen ilmoittautuminen, PL 313, 01030 Vantaan kaupunki.

In Vantaa, the municipal early childhood education service units and private day-care centers are responsible for arranging preschool education. Preschool education is arranged in day-care centers and in some schools.

Language-focused preschool education

One can also in Vantaa apply to language-enriched preschool education in English. The objective of this education is support child in forming interest towards different languages in child’s daily environment. Maximum of 1/4 of the education is English language.

In addition, immersion in Swedish is available for enrolment in pre-school education. The education is in majority given in Swedish and the children are encouraged to use the language in various environment. However, the child can also use Finnish language where needed.

Third language focused preschool alternative is large-scale bilingual English. The education is planned so that the two languages are used with an objective to form an environment where both languages are present and developed based on teacher example and child’s own use. Share of English language usage is higher than 25% in this form of preschool education.
