City of Vantaa to sell AITO Työterveys to Terveystalo

The owner of AITO Työterveys - Vantaa Occupational Health Corporation, owned by the city of Vantaa, will transfer to Terveystalo in February 2022. The city executive board ratified the selling of the city's shares on November 30.

AITO Työterveys - Vantaa Occupational Health Corporation is fully owned by the City of Vantaa. It provides occupational health services to the City of Vantaa, as well as occupational and seamen's health services to realize the occupational health obligations of Vantaa, Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen, and Kerava. The company has over 50 employees.

Vantaa and other customers of AITO Työterveys put the services out to tender in fall 2021. As a result of this tendering, the City of Vantaa will sell AITO Työterveys to the company that won the tendering, Terveystalo. The trade price is €15.4 million, and the contract of sale will be signed in December. The contract stipulates provision of occupational health services to the City of Vantaa for four years.

The ownership change will enhance the company’s well-begun development; developing the company is tied to the terms and conditions set by the City of Vantaa and the other public corporations. The company should also make significant investments in developing digital services, which has not been possible for Vantaa due to its other investment requirement over the next few years.

“AITO Työterveys has done a great job, and the ownership change will enable the company's well-begun development and future growth. Selling of the company is connected with the ongoing wellbeing services county reform. Vantaa health and social welfare department as well as search and rescue operations will be transferred to the new wellbeing services county, which will distribute small-enterprise services into several different areas, which, of course, would disrupt the company's ownership basis. In other words, selling of the company is based on the change in the operating environment,” states Mayor Ritva Viljanen.

“We warmly welcome AITO Työterveys’ capable personnel to Terveystalo. AITO Työterveys is a significant provider of occupational health services in the metropolitan area and will superbly supplement our own expertise, as well as boost our client base in a key operating area. I am also glad of the fact that we get to provide occupational health services to the City of Vantaa and together develop them. Terveystalo is a market leader in occupational health services for municipalities and other public actors, and we thoroughly know the needs of our customers. Thanks to the acquisition, customers of AITO Työterveys have access, not only to their former services, but also to Terveystalo’s high-quality digital services. In addition, the professionals will become part of the biggest health-care expert network in Finland,” says Mikko Tainio, public services director at Terveystalo.

The personnel of AITO Työterveys have been informed of the matter in advance, and information events accommodating for questions and discussions have been arranged for them. Moreover, customers, partners, and the City of Vantaa employees will be separately informed of the acquisition, and the flexibility of services will be ensured in and past this phase of change.
