New coronavirus helpline for all Vantaa residents

Counseling service Tel. 09 8395 0070. The helpline serves Vantaa residents on weekdays from 8:00 to 15:30.

Call the number if

  • you are concerned about how the coronavirus will affect your everyday life.
  • you think that you have been exposed to the coronavirus or,
  • based on your symptoms, you believe you may have been infected.

If you have coronavirus symptoms

If you suspect that you have coronavirus, always contact the health station or emergency service before leaving your home.

  • Weekdays call the appointment service at 8:00-16:00 and on weekends at 8:00-14:00, tel. 09 839 50000.
  • On weekends, the telephone service only handles matters related to suspicion of a coronavirus

Health centers

Vantaa begins coronavirus sampling at its own drive-in sampling point

Vantaa begins coronavirus drive-in sampling on Monday, May 11, 2020. A health care professional will assess the need for coronavirus sampling at health centers’ phone service, tel. 09 839 50 000, Mon-Fri at 8:00-16:00 and Sat-Sun: 8:00-14:00.

Samples will be taken on all days of the week. You will receive a text message on the sampling appointment on your phone. It is crucial that you arrive on the spot at the time agreed. You can also check the time on the Maisa customer portal.

  • Remember to take your ID card, KELA card or passport with you.
  • You will receive an announcement of a negative result within 1–2 days from the day of sampling by text message. The sample will be taken with a cotton swab from the nasopharyngeal mucosa.
  • If the result is positive, you will be called.
  • You can also view the result at www.omakanta.fi (MyKanta) or on the Maisa customer portal as soon as it is ready.

Coming to the sampling

Arrive on the spot at the agreed time in your own car, as a passenger of a car, on a bicycle, or on foot. You must not use public transport.

Martinlaakso health center

Martinlaakso health center is Vantaa's epidemic health center treating patients suffering from the respiratory symptoms. Important: before you come to Martinlaakso health center, call the health services’ phone service:

  • 09 839 50 000 on Mon-Fri at 8-16.
  • At other times, call Medical Helpline, tel. 116 117.

At the phone service, a health care professional will make an assessment of the patient’s need for care and, when required, book an appointment with a doctor. Patients cannot come to Martinlaakso without an advance appointment to minimize the risk of infection. The address of Martinlaakso health center is Laajaniityntie 3, 4th floor, 01620 Vantaa,

Services to patiens who normally use Martinlaakso health care cente

Other Vantaa health centers will focus on providing other urgent care. Patients usually transacting at Martinlaakso health center will be instructed to go to other health centers’ day clinics.

Länsimäki health center is closed until further notice

Oral health care as well as speech and occupational therapy function as usual. Länsimäki health center has been transferred to Hakunila health center.

Koivukylä health center’s day clinic operations transferred to Korso health center April 1-August 31, 2020

  • Urgent appointments are transferred to Korso health center (address: Naalipolku 6, 2nd floor).
  • Appointment service will remain at Koivukylä health center (address: Karsikkokuja 15).
  • During the coronavirus pandemic, we have been forced to restrict non-urgent appointments.
  • Koivukylä health center's vaccination appointment will be closed as of April 3, 2020, until further notice.

Martinlaakso substance abuse outpatient clinic is closed until further notice

Martinlaakso substance abuse outpatient clinic is closed as of March 18, 2020.

Health centers' phone service

  • we can only answer urgent calls. If you need non-urgent care please contact us later.
  • it's not possible to leave a call-back request.
  • you can't make an appointment to a nurse through Maisa
  • We are increasingly utilizing more e-Services

If you fall ill suddenly and don't suspect coronavirus: patients with no personal doctor can choose the day clinic where they want to go to among the health centers in Vantaa.

Emergency duty for children outside office hours

Emergency duty for children outside office hours is transferred from Peijas Hospital to New Children's Hospital

Peijas Hospital’s emergency clinic no longer cares for child patients. Under-16-year-old children and young persons with acute illnesses will be primarily treated at their own health centers on weekdays at 8:00-16:00 (appointment service, tel. 09 839 50000) and

  • after 16:00 at New Children's Hospital’s joint emergency service. Before coming to the emergency service, call Medical Helpline, tel. 116 117.
  • In life-threatening cases, always call the emergency telephone number 112.

Vaccinations, Medical Supplies, Technical aids supply

Vaccinations

  • Vaccination prescriptions are closed until further notice.
  • Tourist phone advice and tourist vaccination reception are closed due to the coronavirus situation.

Technical aids supply

As of Monday, March 23, 2020, you must make an appointment with Koivukylä and Myyrmäki technical aids supply for assessment, pick-up and maintenance of technical aids

  • Technical aids supplies’ phone 09 839 500 40 answers calls on Mon-Fri: 8:00-15:00.
  • In necessary cases, we will make home calls.

Changes in maternity and child welfare clinics’ operations

  • Counseling bureau services will support pregnant women and families with children also during the coronavirus pandemic.
  • There will be changes in counseling bureaus’ self-measurement points: blood pressure will be measured at appointments until further notice, and a nurse will guide urine samples.
  • We will contact our customers as regards any changes.
  • You may only come to the counseling bureau, if you are healthy.
  • Only the customer without any other family members may come to the appointment at the counseling bureau (with the exception of acknowledging paternity).
  • One of the parents may accompany the child to the appointment. The family's children may only come along, if you cannot arrange care for them.
  • Rajakylä counseling bureau's operations will be transferred on March 31, 2020, to Hakunila counseling bureau (Laukkarinne 6, 01200 Vantaa).

Services for the pregnant:

  • Pregnancy appointments will be carried out as planned
  • First pregnancy appointments and public-health nurse’s comprehensive checks will be carried out as distance appointments, to the extent possible.
  • Postnatal home call and other home calls will be transferred to the counseling bureau, to the extent possible.

Child welfare clinic’s services

  • Fixed health checks for 0-1,5-year-olds will take place as usual. Non-urgent appointments will not be given for over-1,5-year-olds.
  • New, non-urgent appointments for checks for preschool children will be given to the extent allowed by counseling bureaus’ appointment situations.
  • Postnatal home call will be agreed with the customer on a case-specific basis. All other home calls will primarily take place over the phone / by video appointment.

Counseling bureaus’ family work

  • Counseling bureaus’ family coaches’ services are available also under the exceptional circumstances brought by the coronavirus epidemic. You can discuss any issues troubling you with a family coach and together think of solutions for problematic situations.
  • Discussions with family coaches will mainly take place by remote access, either by phone or video visit.
  • You can yourself contact the counseling bureau’s family coach. You can also contact the family coach through a public-health nurse or a counseling bureau doctor.

Open maternity and child welfare clinics

  • Clinics are available by appointment only. You can make an appointment with the clinic by phone or send a message to the public-health nurse through the Maisa service.

Groups

  • Child welfare clinics’ group-form activities will be canceled until further notice.

Rehabilitation services function under exceptional circumstances

Rehabilitation appointments and home calls will function as usual as regards those aged 70 or over who do not belong in any risk group. We will conduct some of the appointments by remote access. You can reserve an appointment or home call:

We will account for sufficient protection in all customer situations to prevent the spread of the disease. We will conduct urgent home calls for customers aged 70 or over, if it helps to promote the customer’s discharge from hospital or prevent the customer’s inpatient care.

School and Student Health Care services

We will continue to support schoolchildren, students and families also during the coronavirus pandemic. We have been developing our phone service, and we will open one-stop school and student health care phone services on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

  • School and student health care phone services will counsel and guide children and the young in issues related to health and welfare.
  • The phone service also provides help and support for mental wellbeing.
  • Vantaa’s school and student health care nurses will answer the calls.
  • The service is provided in Finnish, English, and Swedish.

Transacting will, to the extent possible, take place over the phone or video appointments.

  • School health care’s health-check appointments for 1st, 5th and 8th-graders will be canceled.
  • Conscription-related preliminary health checks will be continued.
  • Students at social and health care educational institutions will be given the necessary checks and vaccinations.
  • Other appointments made with the nurse and school doctor of the educational institution will primarily be conducted over the phone: only when necessary will the student be asked to come to an appointment on the spot.
  • Other school and student health care appointments will be conducted to the extent allowed by the resources.
  • If you need school or student health care services, contact the nurse of your own school / educational institution.

Services for the elderly and the disabled

Visits to senior citizens' centers are forbidden

We will all together protect the elderly and those with basic diseases against infection, which is why visits to senior citizens' centers and hospitals are forbidden. Please keep in touch with your relatives and friends by other means.

Daily activities for the elderly, rehabilitative work activity and work centers are closed until August 2, 2020.

Outing Buddy activities

Outing Buddy activities are terminated because of the coronavirus. All customers will be contacted by phone as of March 18, 2020. When required, you can email questions to: menokaveri@vantaa.fi. Outing buddies have been informed of the changes by email.

During these exceptional circumstances no inductions will be arranged and no new customers will be admitted. If it is difficult for you to move outside the home, please contact counseling for senior citizens’ or the disabled.

They will put you in contact with a voluntary peer support person with whom you can talk over the phone.

Assistance for special food costs

Half of Kela’s basic-assistance food costs will be granted as supplementary social assistance—for special grounds—during the coronavirus epidemic. The special support is primarily meant for low-income customers entitled to Kela’s basic social assistance.

The assistance can be granted for

  • supplementing quarantine food reserves for 14 days and
  • for food costs of children absent from day-care center or school because of the coronavirus epidemic. The assistance can be granted for the period when having meals at school or day-care center are not realized.

Please send the application for this supplementary social assistance primarily through the online Maisa (www.maisa.fi) service.

You can also begin the application process over the phone: call 09 8392 3384 (from Monday to Friday: 8:15-16:00).

We will always try to handle these applications as urgent. The assistance will be paid to the bank account specified in the applicant's application.

Dental care

Emergency and necessary dental care starting 6th of April

If your need for dental care is urgent, please first contact dental care first by telephone on tel. +358 (0)9 8393 5300 Mon-Thurs 7:30 AM-3:00 PM, Fri 7:30 AM-2:00 PM.

During the Coronavirus epidemic, emergency dental care will be ensured in the following way:

  • Healthy patients: at the Tikkurila Health Center’s dental clinic, in their own separate space (Kielotie 11)
  • Over 70-year-olds and risk patients because of their general health: at the Tikkurila Health Center’s dental clinic (Kielotie 11)
  • Other dental clinics are closed for the time being during the pandemic
  • Only emergency and necessary orthodontics will be done during the Coronavirus epidemic. See here for additional information.

People who have a Coronavirus infection or who are in quarantine or have been exposed to it, emergency dental care is done in the HUS Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

You will receive more exact directions when making an appointment.

After the epidemic has subsided, we will continue periodic check-ups for children and young people, examinations of adults, as well as non-emergency care.

Vantaa hospital

  • You can keep in touch with your relative or friend by phone in the afternoons.
  • Please be patient, if we cannot immediately answer your call.
  • If you wish to inquire about the patient’s state of health, we recommend that you directly contact the patient or personal nurse.
  • The personal nurse will contact the patient’s relatives in case there are any changes in the patient’s health.

Substance-abuse and mental-health services

  • If you have flu symptoms or you have recently returned from abroad, do not come to the spot. Contact us by phone.
  • The changes will be valid until further notice.

Martinlaakso substance abuse outpatient clinic

  • Martinlaakso substance abuse outpatient clinic is closed. You will get help at Tikkurila substance abuse outpatient clinic.
  • On-call service without appointment: Tue, Thurs and Fri: 8:30-10:00, address Kielotie 20 c, 2nd floor.
  • Counseling and appointment service, tel. 09 839 23415 on weekdays at 8:30–15:00. You can leave a call-back request for you worker.
  • Appointments made will take place over the phone or on, for example, Skype.
  • All group activities have been suspended until further notice.

Myyrmäki substance abuse outpatient clinic

  • On-call service without appointment: Mon and Thurs at 12:00-14:00 (primarily for drug users)

  • Only a few customers can be simultaneously on the spot.

  • Appointments with health centers’ mental health nurses will take place as remote appointments. The nurses will contact you by phone.
