Matriculation festivities transferred to the fall

Because of the coronavirus situation, Vantaa educational institutions will not celebrate graduations in the traditional manner at the end of May. There are, however, other ways to celebrate undergraduates and those who graduate into a vocation.

A separate party or a certificate handed over at a celebration is no precondition for graduation.

All Vantaa day high schools will themselves decide how to announce candidates for the matriculation undergraduates on Saturday, May 30. “At issue may be, for instance, the principal's video greeting or a letter to be opened at a specific time,” says City of Vantaa upper secondary education director Ari Ranki when pondering on the various alternatives.

Students graduate all over the year from Vantaa Vocational College Varia. The people graduated from Varia in the first part of 2020 will be celebrated on Friday, May 29. Varia will inform about the arrangements on its website and through the teachers-in-charge.

Each educational institution will itself decide on how to deliver the certificates to the students. The educational institutions will inform the students of practical arrangements through Wilma and Studenta, as well as on their websites by mid-May.

Graduation parties

Students’ graduation parties are, first and foremost, a family celebration enriched by the educational institutions’ events. Families are strongly recommended to account for authorities’ regulations and recommendations when deciding on their own graduation parties and their times. Since health and safety are key, at the moment it seems that traditional graduation parties can be arranged, at the earliest, in the fall.

Vantaa high schools will arrange a celebration for those who graduated in the spring on Friday, August 28, if allowed by the restrictions arising from the coronavirus epidemic. On the same day, IB undergraduates from Tikkurilan lukio will also be celebrated. Varia will not arrange a joint celebration in August.
