MuKa project
Museum for everybody, that is, MuKa is one the current projects of Vantaa City Museum. The purpose of the MuKa project is to develop the museum's operations in such a way that they would be better suited to all the city's residents, regardless of their linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Funders
During the project, we will create and test new forms of cooperation, as well as arrange events together with representatives of different cultural groups. In the different stages of the project, we will also arrange surveys and feedback events where multicultural Vantaa residents can tell what kind of issues they are interested in and what they wish from the museum.
The aim of the MuKa project is to make every Vantaa resident feel that the museum belongs to them. Everybody will be heard regardless of their linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and their stories will be equally manifested in the museum’s activities and contents.
Foreign-language speaking and multicultural Vantaa residents’ material will be saved in the museum’s collections—including objects, photos, and archival material—so that their perspectives and voices are made visible. At the same time, the museum's collections are bolstered, becoming the cultural-heritage collection of all Vantaa residents.
We will turn the issues we learn during the project into an operating model and compile simple, easy-to-adopt instructions to benefit all museums in Finland. Our partner in this project is KAMU Espoo City Museum. Finland's National Board of Antiquities has granted the project an innovated museum projects grant.
