Katrineberg area
Katrineberg is a scenically and historically valuable area located in the Seutula district of the major region of Kivistö. The layers of its built environment include the 300-year-old Katrineberg Manor and the Katriina Hospital complex dating from the late 1950s. The competition area is located next to the Vantaa River Valley and is part of the nationally valuable landscape area.
The aim of the competition
The aim of the competition is to design a sustainable Katrineberg village, which has diverse functions and consists of innovatively utilised existing building stock and infill development weighted in favour of low-rise housing. The goal is a green and varied village-like environment that is pleasant for pedestrians. The starting points of the competition are consideration of the established built heritage and landscape values, as well as strengthening the biodiversity of the area. The competition seeks solutions that implement the City of Vantaa’s carbon-neutrality target for 2030.
Gathering feedback and decision-making
The entries to the architectural competition will be made available for viewing online to collect feedback from residents and showcased at a public event at the end of the summer.
The winning entries of the competition form a basis for the detailed plan of the area. The detailed planning process for Katriinan kylä will be initiated in late 2024 and the residents and property owners will be kept informed of the process. As part of the of the detailed plan process, there will be events for the public as well as several possibilities for giving feedback on the plans.
