City council had a moment’s silence in remembrance of the sad events of April
City of Vantaa expresses its deepest condolences to the relatives and friends on their deep sorrow.
Vantaa City Council began its meeting on April 22 by having a moment’s silence due to the tragic events at Viertola school and due to the death of HR and Group Director Kirsi-Marja Lievonen. The The meeting entered the 2023 HR report for information. At the end of 2023, the City of Vantaa employed 8,165 people, of which 5,863 were permanent employees. The average age of the employees was 45 years, and 10% of them have a mother tongue other than Finnish, Swedish, or Sami.
The measures included in the 2022-2025 availability program were taken in a versatile manner.
In 2023, the city’s salary expenses amounted to €394 million. The salaries increased because of the increase in staff, as well as the pay rises agreed in the municipal collective agreement. The wage difference between women and men diminished by two cents, compared to year 2022.

The city council also ratified the alterations to the local detailed plans for Pitkänsuontie in Ojango and Puutarhatien päiväkoti (Puutarhatie daycare center) in Koivuhaka.
The western part of the Pitkänsuontie snow-dumping place in Ojanko will be turned into a city block for gas stations and commercial buildings. Pitkänsuontie’s protected green area and parts of the street area will be turned into a city block for industrial and storage buildings. The northern part of Porvoonväylä will be turned into a street area, and a local detailed plan will be compiled for the subterranean tunnel of Vuosaari harbor rail.
A new daycare center is planned for Koivuhaka, in the current park area.
In addition, the city council also discussed city councilors’ initiatives concerning giving up the airport-rail project, preventing the spread of gangs, security along Korsontie, an external tendering analysis, and a service guide for senior citizens.
