Jumbo Shopping Centre to have a new library

Release

Vantaa City Executive Board approved in its meeting on October 20 the needs assessment of Jumbo library. The new Jumbo library will replace the small and impractical premises of the current Point library. The new library will also meet the need to develop library services in the Aviapolis major region. The new library is scheduled to open in fall 2026.

Lapsi ja aikuinen seisovat kirjastossa kirjahyllyn edessä valitsemassa kirjoja.

Nykyinen Pointin kirjasto on Aviapoliksen suuralueen ainoa kirjasto. Tilat kansainvälisen koulun yhteydessä ovat liian pienet ja epätarkoituksenmukaiset kirjaston käyttöön. Uudet tilat Jumbossa soveltuvat paremmin tarkoitukseen.

The Aviapolis major region needs more extensive and versatile library services. The only library in the Aviapolis major region is situated in connection with Point International School, and it is too small and impractical for the current library needs. Furthermore, the number of students at Point school has grown significantly over the past few years, and the school needs the premises currently occupied by the library for itself.

Jumbo Shopping Center can provide the library with bigger premises than it currently has. Moreover, the premises are already situated in a place visited by a large number of customers and can be planned to meet the needs of library services. Jumbo library’s central position is ideal to serve the entire Aviapolis area, as well as attract customers from all over Vantaa. The number of customers is estimated to multiply as the Point library transfers to Jumbo. Jumbo library will also act as the City of Vantaa’s showcase to visitors to the shopping mall.

Jumbo library will replace the alternative—included in the city's service-network plan—where another library would be opened in Aviapolis in 2030 in addition to the Point library. In the span of fifteen years, the major region’s joint library, to be placed in Jumbo, is more cost-effective than the earlier plan.
