Vantaa invites residents to join the deliberative online discussion on the city’s development
Vantaa is organizing a new kind of online discussion, where residents can comment on the development of Vantaa. The discussion is open and ends on February 13.
The results of the discussion will be used in the development of Vantaa’s different areas. In 2026, the city will prepare development plans for all seven major districts of Vantaa, namely Kivistö, Myyrmäki, Aviapolis, Tikkurila, Korso, Koivukylä, and Hakunila. The development plans will define, among other things, what new city services are needed in the districts. Is there a need for new playgrounds, sports facilities, or some other service provided by the city?
The discussions will address the development needs of Vantaa by major district. Each district will have its own discussion, meaning that there will be seven simultaneous discussions. You can participate in one or more discussions.
A new kind of discussion platform
The discussion is being held on the Voxit platform, which is designed to promote constructive deliberation.
The starting points for Vantaa’s Voxit discussions are initial statements made by the city, which the participants of the discussion can comment on. A statement can be, for example, “The area should especially invest in sports services.”
For each statement, participants can state whether they agree or disagree. Participants can provide reasons for their opinion, if they wish. The statements can also be skipped.
Participants can also submit their own statements to the platform, which others can then comment on. You can add your own statements until February 2 or until the discussion for the district in question reaches 100 statements.
“We want to try out a new kind of online discussion, as residents have wished for more influencing opportunities online,” says Chief Community Involvement Specialist, Mari Lehtoruusu.
“The special feature of Voxit discussions is that residents can add their own statements for others to comment on. This way, residents can raise topics that are important to them in the joint discussion, and the city gains more extensive information about residents’ views. The opinions of residents are important.”
The discussion platform is in Finnish, Swedish, and English. The discussions are anonymous.
The discussion begins on January 15 and ends on February 13.
