City of Vantaa statement: funding for integration must reflect actual costs and service needs
The City Board of Vantaa met on Monday, 21 September 2026. At the meeting, the City Board decided to submit the City of Vantaa’s statement to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment concerning the draft decree on compensation for costs related to the promotion of integration.
Vantaa supports efforts to clarify the funding system but emphasizes that funding for statutory integration services must correspond to actual costs and service needs.
According to the statement, the planned cost-saving measures would reduce Vantaa’s calculated compensation by more than two million euros per year based on a preliminary estimate. The city proposes that municipality-specific impact assessments be published and that compensation and reimbursement levels for 2027 and 2028 be resolved as one coherent and predictable package.
