Grants for local civic activities

Targeted grants may be awarded to activities organised by residents, associations and organisations that promote a sense of community and participation at a local or regional level in Vantaa.

An applicant who is awarded an operating grant may only be awarded a targeted grant for a justified reason.  

Targeted grants are used to support local events organised by residents, such as village fêtes, festivals and community work days, as well as new types of projects that promote a sense of community in Vantaa.  

The activities receiving funding must be open to everyone. If an event or project has a clearly defined target group or a specific audience, the application must explain how the requirements for openness will be met.

Targeted grants will not be awarded for events or projects that are primarily cultural, youth or sporting events, or which are supported by another targeted grant scheme.

Targeted grants are not awarded for activities whose primary purpose is to generate profit or raise funds.

The application must be submitted no later than 21 days before the start of the activity and 21 days before the Urban Culture and Wellbeing Committee’s meeting in which want your application processed. 

A report on the use of the targeted grant must be submitted no later than two months after the end of the funded activity, or by the date specified by the Urban Culture and Wellbeing Committee.

The grant will not be paid, or any advance payment already made will be recovered, if the expenditure report is not submitted by the deadline.  

Receipts verifying the payment transactions must be provided as an annex to the expenditure report upon request. 

An operating grant may be awarded to an organisation or other community group that, by the end of the application period, has been active for at least one financial year.  

The grant can be applied for by, for example, district associations, village associations or residents’ associations. 

Operating grants are awarded to support regular civic activities in Vantaa that are aimed at local residents of a wide area.  

Expenses relating to the organisation of events and community activities, for example, may be accepted as costs under the operating grant. The grant may also be used to cover the recipient’s general expenses, such as wages, rent and office costs.

The application period for operating grants for 2027 is 1 October to 31 October 2026.
