Impact of the strike on Vantaaʼs services
Political strikes by several trade unions will affect services in the City of Vantaa in January-February 2024. SuPer and Tehy have announced strikes from the 13th of February to the 14th of February in protest against the government's actions. At that time, most of Vantaa's day-care centres will be closed and pre-school education is unlikely to be provided.
The planned strikes will have at least the following effects on the services of the City of Vantaa:
- Most of Vantaa's early childhood education services will be closed due to the strike from 13 February to 14 February, and pre-school education will probably not be organised on those days.
- The strike will stop train services on Monday 12 February and may also affect train travel on Tuesday 13 February. Pupils will attend school as normal on strike days and the early childhood education services will not be affected by the strike.
- The strikes will make it significantly more difficult to organise early childhood education and pre-school education from 31 January to 1 February 2024. Most of the City of Vantaaʼs day care centres, family day care and group family day care will be completely closed on Wednesday 31 January and Thursday 1 February due to the strikes.
- The strikes will almost completely shut down public transport on Friday 2 February.
- The strike will also affect meals at some Vantaa schools and day-care centres on Thursday 1 February. The strike will cause changes to meals at schools, colleges and day-care centres that use Vanttiʼs catering services.
- The strikes may affect the opening hours of Vantaa-info points and telephone lines from 31 January to 1 February.
- Residents´ and youth facilities in Vantaa may have to be closed from 31 January to 1 February due to the impact of the strike.
- The strike may also cause delays in street maintenance from 31 January to 1 February.
At least AKT, JHL, Jyty, OAJ, SuPer, Talentia and Tehy are planning strikes.
