New career coaching service helps immigrants find jobs and plan their careers

News

Immigrants living in Vantaa can receive free career and education guidance in English from the career coaching service Get Work.

Woman and man are discussing something at the table.

Career coaching is one-to-one, but participants can also share their experiences in events and workshops.

You don't need to know Finnish or Swedish to get career coaching as an immigrant. Get Work career coaching is intended for English-speaking Vantaa residents who are not yet fluent in the local languages Finnish and Swedish.

Career coaching is a personalised service. The trainees can also participate in events and workshops. Participation is possible if the client has a residence permit.

− We offer practical career coaching in English for foreign-language immigrants to help them better integrate into Finnish working life. We help and advise them in preparing job application documents and other matters related to job search, says career coach Raisa Kangas from Laurea University of Applied Sciences.

− We also share information about Finnish working life and culture, as well as educational opportunities.

The English-language career coaching service will be offered in Vantaa in 2024 as part of the Get Work Vantaa project.

Tailored support for career planning

Career coaching provides a wide range of support to outline and develop your career path. The service aims to help participants clarify their own career goals, find suitable training opportunities and develop their skills.

Individual guidance can be tailored to the needs of the client. Group guidance in workshops supports a sense of community. They allow people to share their experiences and learn from each other.

Career coaching is designed to meet the needs of both unemployed foreign-language jobseekers and foreign-language jobseekers who are already in employment.

Get Work Vantaa project continues until summer 2025

The career coaching is produced by Laurea and Metropolia as part of the Get Work Vantaa joint project. The City of Vantaa is the main implementer and Laurea and Metropolia are co-implementers. Two career coaches will work on the two-year project.

The project will end on May 31, 2025 and is co-funded by the European Social Fund.

The career coaching service was developed in a customer-centred way using service design methods in autumn 2023. The career coaching and other services and operating models offered by Get Work Vantaa will be developed during 2024.
