The autumn 2024 exhibition at Gallery K will feature performance works by artists from Vantaa. The recorded performances were created as part of the Sidewalk art project led by the Other Side group. The exhibition, culminating the project in Galleria K in Tikkurila, is organized in collaboration with the Vantaa Art Museum Artsi.

The Sidewalk art project, conceived by the Other Side group, Aman Askarizad & Parsa Kamehkhosh, stems from the question: “What can performance art achieve in today’s world and society?” In contemporary art, performance is a form that challenges traditional ways of experiencing and defining art. Performance art seeks different and atypical places for presenting art, thereby redefining where and who can interact with art.

The Sidewalk 1st Edition exhibition at Galleria K explores these questions by presenting recorded performances from the Sidewalk art project. The Other Side group sought participants from Vantaa through an open call, who might not have had previous experience with art or performances.

In the art project, a diverse group of Vantaa residents participated in workshops led by performance artist Tomasz Szrama and created their own performances. The performances were based on the participants’ experiences and personalities, as well as societal issues. The works completed for the exhibition address interaction in Vantaa’s urban space and nature in a multifaceted way.

The Vantaa Art Museum Artsi highlights performance art in its activities. The Sidewalk 1st Edition exhibition, realized in collaboration with the Other Side and Artsi, celebrates the potential of performance art to engage people and create meaningful, shared experiences.

Artsi invites all city residents to the exhibition’s open opening on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Gallery K (Asematie 7, Tikkurila). The opening will feature a performance by artist Roi Vaara.
