Value your daily life, Cast your vote! County and municipal elections 2025

News

The county and municipal elections will be held simultaneously for the first time. By voting, we influence who will decide on important everyday services for the next four years.

An election official smiles at a voter.

In the county election, we will choose 69 county councilors for the Vantaa and Kerava wellbeing services county’s council. The wellbeing services counties are responsible for arranging social and health services, as well as well as search and rescue services.

Meanwhile, we will choose 67 city councilors for Vantaa City Council in the municipal election. The city council decides on the municipality’s services, finances, education and environment, culture, and climate acts.

Voting is an easy way to influence the functioning and development of your hometown. It is important that people of all ages and backgrounds are involved in choosing the people who will decide on the affairs of the city and the wellbeing service county.

Choose a Candidate

What kind of services do the city of Vantaa and the Wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava offer to their residents? What would you improve in your residential area? Get to know the candidates and their goals, for example, through election compasses. Choose a person who shares your values and advocates for the things that are important to you.

Decide When to Vote

The busiest times for elections have traditionally been the actual election day and the first and last days of advance voting. If you want to avoid crowds, consider whether you could schedule your voting outside of these days.

Make sure you have a valid ID, such as an ID card, passport, or driver's license, on the day you choose to vote. If you do not have an identity document, you can get a temporary ID card for voting free of charge from police stations, regardless of your municipality of residence.

If you have mobility issues that make it unreasonably difficult for you to get to a voting or advance voting place, you can vote at home from April 2 to April 8, 2025. Register for home voting by April 1, 2025, at 4 PM. More information: vantaa.fi/en/elections.

During the advance voting period from April 2 to April 8, 2025, you can choose the most convenient voting place for you in Vantaa or anywhere else in Finland. Vantaa has 13 advance voting places and an election bus where you can vote. The election bus will visit 45 locations around Vantaa during the advance voting period.

On election day, April 13, 2025, you can only vote at the place indicated on your notification card. The notification card will be mailed to you, or if you have activated the suomi.fi service, you will find the notification card there. You do not need to bring the notification card to the voting place.

Cast Your Vote

You can vote in both the county and municipal elections at the same voting place. Vantaa's voting places have separate voting booths for the elections. You can also choose to vote in only one of the elections if you wish. At Vantaa's voting places, election officials ensure the smoothness of the voting process and assist you if needed.

Present your ID to the election official at the voting place. They will give you a purple ballot for the regional elections. If you are voting on the actual election day, the election official will mark in the electoral register that you have voted. If you are at an advance voting place, the voting mark will be made only when you return the completed ballot.

You will be directed to the county election voting booth, where there is a list of county election candidates. Mark the number of the candidate you want to vote for on the ballot with a pen. Do not write anything else on the ballot. Fold the ballot and go to the county election registration point. During advance voting, the vote is recorded in the system and properly placed in the advance voting envelope. On the actual election day, the ballot is dropped into the ballot box.

Next, you will be given a white ballot for the municipal elections. You will be directed to the municipal election voting booths, where you can only vote for municipal election candidates. Voting is done in the same way as for the county elections.
