The new City Council began its term – Sakari Rokkanen was chosen as the City Council Chair and Ulla Kaukola as the City Executive Board Chair

The work of Vantaa’s new City Councilors started on June 16 with the first meeting of the council term. During the meeting, the Chairs of the City Council and the members of the City Executive Board, committees, divisions and other bodies were chosen. In addition, the City Council entered for information the interim report for the first quarter of the year as well as the financial framework of 2026 and approved the 2025 extensive welfare account.

Sakari Rokkanen (National Coalition Party) was chosen as the Chair of the City Council, Ida Tamminen (Social Democratic Party) as the first Vice Chair and Tuire Kaimio (Greens) as the second Vice Chair.

Ulla Kaukola (Social Democratic Party) was chosen as the Chair of the City Executive Board, Mika Kasonen (National Coalition Party) as the first Vice Chair and Eve Rämö (Greens) as the second Vice Chair. The other members of the City Executive Board are Minna Räsänen (Social Democratic Party), Mika Niikko (Finns), Heli Hakala (National Coalition Party), Emily Strohm (Social Democratic Party), Nina Nummela (National Coalition Party), Funda Demiri (Left Alliance), Faysal Abdi (Social Democratic Party), Petri Roininen (Centre Party), Otso Kivimäki (National Coalition Party), Anni Juulia Tuomainen (Greens), Visa Tammi (Social Democratic Party) and Anssi Aura (National Coalition Party).

Vantaa City Council consists of 67 City Councilors, of which 26 are first-timers. Of the City Councilors, 37 are women and 30 men. The City Council’s age range is broad: the youngest City Councilor is 21, and the oldest is 76. The council places are divided by party as follows: The Social Democratic Party: 21 places; the National Coalition Party: 18 places; the Greens: 9 places; the Finns: 7 places; the Left Alliance: 6 places; the Centre Party: 3 places; the Christian Democrats: 2 places and the Swedish People's Party: 1 place.

In addition, the City Councilors’ initiatives regarding Democracy Week, Tikkurila station, the water quality of Vantaa’s rivers, school libraries and the Aito avioliitto banner were discussed in the meeting.
