Vantaa’s first street tree policy has now been completed. Its purpose is to promote the preservation and increase of street trees, with an emphasis on their vitality.

The policy describes the current state of street trees in Vantaa and the necessary measures to safeguard them. A policy is needed because the city’s street tree assets, estimated to be worth around 80 million euros, are in poor condition.

Future challenges have been identified as further weakening the living conditions of street trees. This threatens the city’s ability to address challenges related to carbon sequestration, climate adaptation, biodiversity, and nature-positive development.

The policy concludes that safeguarding ecosystem services in increasingly dense urban centres requires significantly stronger support for the vitality, quantity, and diversity of both existing and newly planted trees.

Detailed plan amendment for the Colour Factory area prepares a diverse district for housing, jobs, leisure and services

The detailed plan amendment for the Tikkurila Colour Factory area will transform the current headquarters and research centre block of Tikkurila Oyj, as well as parts of its industrial site and city-owned streets and parks, into a diverse area for housing, workplaces, services, mobility and recreation.

The southern part of the Tikkurila rapids dam, the brick transformer building along Kuninkaalantie, and two riverside buildings will be protected. The ecological corridor of the Kerava River will be preserved.

Part of the current parking area along the railway will be converted into a street and green space.

Detailed plan for Rusokallio in Hakkila includes a recreation area and space for industrial, storage and office buildings

The Rusokallio area in Hakkila will be zoned to include a local recreation area as well as blocks for industrial, warehouse and office buildings, totalling 60,500 square metres of floor area.

The boundaries of Hakkilankulma Park and the street areas along Old Porvoo Road and Valkoisenlähteentie will be revised.
