Thought in Color exhibition at Gallery K explores color in contemporary art
Gallery K’s autumn exhibition Thought in Color delves into the use of color in contemporary art, examining the moods and worlds that emerge through color in artworks. The exhibition is curated from the art collection of Vantaa Art Museum Artsi.
By Raili Tang
Running from November 21, 2025, to February 22, 2026, Thought in Color offers perspectives on color and its application in contemporary art. The exhibition features paintings, graphics, and installations from the Vantaa Art Museum’s collection.
In the works presented, color is explored through intuition and expressive painting. In intuitive practice, color guides the artist’s choices, while in expressive approaches, color conveys emotion and movement. Colors create atmospheres, feelings, and imaginative worlds within the artworks. Some pieces in the exhibition also treat color itself as a central element.
The exhibition includes artists who have long worked in the field of contemporary art, such as Raili Tang (b. 1950), as well as younger artists like Kerttu Saali (b. 1994). Raili Tang has built a 40-year career in Finnish abstract expressionism and informalism. Kerttu Saali graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2023 and works intuitively, drawing inspiration from, among other things, the Impressionists’ treatment of light.
Vantaa Art Museum Artsi is also pleased to present newly acquired works from 2024–2025 in the exhibition. The museum’s collection includes over 12,000 works by Finnish and international contemporary artists. The collection grows annually through acquisitions and donations.
The exhibition includes works by the following artists:
Ilppo Alho, Göran Augustson, Viljami Heinonen, Sirpa Häkli, Hilda Kozári, Noomi Ljungdell, Kerttu Saali, Raili Tang, Reijo Viljanen
Gallery K is Vantaa Art Museum Artsi’s and Vantaa Artists’ Associations shared exhibition space next to the Vantaa City Hall in Tikkurila. Vantaa Artists’ Association also runs an art rental studio in connection with Gallery K, which displays a changing collection of works by member artists.
