Vantaa light rail vehicle procurement update progresses to City Council

According to the updated project plan, the maximum price for the procurement of 33 light rail vehicles will rise from 163.7 million euros to 180.2 million euros. The required increase amounts to 16.5 million euros. The cost increase is the result of, among other things, a rise in the general cost level, the market situation and disruptions in international supply chains.

In addition, the City Executive Board proposes that the City Council grant an absolute guarantee of up to 110 million euros to Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd as collateral for the loans that will be taken out for the funding of the Vantaa light rail vehicle investments.

The vehicle procurement includes 33 bi-directional light rail vehicles that will serve the traffic of the Vantaa light rail and West Helsinki’s light rail lines. The vehicles are expected to be delivered in 2029–2032.

Local detailed plans for Vantaa light rail and Myyrmäki progress to City Council

In addition, the City Executive Board decided to submit three local detailed plans to the City Council for approval.

Vantaa light rail, southern Vaarala and northern Länsimäki: the local detailed plan reserves space for the light rail’s infrastructure, street environment and ecological connections.

Rälssitie 6, Veromies: the plan alteration allows for two new blocks of apartment houses next to the Annefred light rail stop. An estimated 360 residents are expected to settle in the area, along with business, office and service premises.

Liesipuisto and Tuurapuisto, Myyrmäki: the current Liesitori will be changed into an age-friendly and green urban park, and the planned micro-forest of Tuurapuisto will be formed on the northern side of Tuurapolku.
