Recreational activities and hobbies for young adults

Young adult’s living room is open in Tikkurila's youth center on Tuesdays at 15:00-19:00. You can join the activities flexibly. Themes—based on participants’ wishes—are arranged in the living room, and you also can arrange program according to your wishes!

The gym is available to everybody who have taken the gym instruction.

On Mondays, the Kivistö Youth Center hosts a Young Adults’ Living Room from 5.30 PM to 8.30 PM. You can join at any time during the evening. The evenings can include themed activities based on your preferences, and you are also welcome to organize your own events! The Kivistö Living Room is made possible by MarjaVerkko ry in collaboration with the City of Vantaa.

Address: Vantaankoskentie 69, Shopping Center Kivis. The youth center is located on the second floor. The space is accessible.

Vantaa Queer Space offers a safe space for young people aged 16-29 who experience their gender or sexuality in diverse ways or are still exploring their identity. The activities follow the safe space principles, and you are welcome just as you are! The Vantaa Queer Space is organized in collaboration with Vantaa's Young Adult Services, Vantaa Girls' Space (Nicehearts ry), and Vantaa Boys' House.

The group meets on Thursdays from 4 PM to 7 PM in Liito, Tikkurila, located at Lummetie 2B C, 1st floor. The space is accessible.

Gaming Fridays take place at 15:00- 20:00! Come to Liito in Tikkurila to play board, card, console and party games in good company. We have a Nintendo Switch and game laptop with Jackbox games and others. There are also boardgames, and you can bring your own games with you. You can join the activities flexibly. Let's kick-start the weekend together!

Interested in hiking with a nice group? We organize nature trips in Vantaa and in nearby areas as well. There will be both short nature excursions lasting a few hours and full-day trips where we walk (or cycle) and have a picnic or prepare a meal together.

Due to the need to plan for food, registration is required for the trips. The registration form will be available closer to the trip date, and the link will be posted on the Finnish page (Metsäkerho). Registration closes one day before the trip. The trips are free of charge (including travel costs).

Are you interested in art and/or tinkering? Kulttuuritehdas Vernissa organises an art and tinkering workshop for young people aged 16–29 every Monday. 

Taidevärkkäämö is an open, relaxed space where you can create art and experiment. At the workshop, you can learn new techniques, create art with other people or painting. Some of the activities are guided, but you can also work on your own projects. The point is to spend time together and have a creative and safe space to express yourself. 

You can participate in the activities free of charge. The facility is accessible (there is a lift). Register in advance here.

Get some chalk on your hands and head to the wall! Every Climbing Wednesday, you can access the Ristikko Climbing Arena for free starting at 12 PM. Join the Vantaa Young Adults session to try and improve your climbing skills in both bouldering and auto-belaying walls. In bouldering, you climb low walls without a harness, with thick mats below to ensure a soft landing. On the auto-belaying walls, you climb over 10-meter-high walls with a harness, and the reliable auto-belay devices ensure a safe descent.

The group can accommodate 8 climbers, and registration opens every week. You can sign up for as many sessions as you like. A staff member or volunteer from the Young Adults Services will be present to welcome those who have registered. Guidance is available until 1 PM, after which you can continue climbing independently for as long as you like. A Climbing Arena instructor will also be on hand to guide beginners and provide valuable tips to all participants. Regular participation can help you improve quickly in the sport.

It was a great experience where I could test a new sport and get excited about it. Bouldering is fun and challenging in its own way.

Cosplay Corner is an open hobby group for young adults interested in cosplay, anime, and manga. Sewing machines, sergers, and other textile tools, as well as fabrics and materials for costumes, are available for use. Come to work on your own projects in a fun group or simply to socialize. Various activities can be organized based on participants' preferences, such as photoshoots, anime nights, or outings. No registration required, everyone is welcome!

The instructor can guide beginners in simple crafting tasks, but we recommend having some prior knowledge if you plan a larger project.

Location: Youth multipurpose space Liito, Tikkurila. 2nd floor. Follow the signs from the lobby. Wheelchair accessible.

Time: Mondays from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Based on young adults' wishes, we organize trips and sports trials a few times each season. In these sports trials, participants can try out various sports under guided supervision. So far, we've tested activities such as bouldering, archery, reggaeton, yoga, karate, water polo, boffing, and parkour. Popular activities will be revisited according to demand!

We can go on trips to cultural sites, petting farms, nature spots, entertainment centers, or even to Porvoo! Feel free to suggest a trip or sport trial idea to us via email, WhatsApp, or direct message on social media. You can find our contact information further down on this page.

The registration link will be available about two weeks before the event. The link will be posted on the Finnish page (lajikokeilut ja retket) when the event is announced.

At the Sports Club, you can enjoy playing various ball games in great company. We keep things relaxed and leave unnecessary seriousness at home – here, we move for the joy of movement! The activities are chosen based on participants' preferences and the availability of equipment. The group is led by a volunteer from Vantaa's young adults' activities, along with a staff member from the leisure team.

No prior sports background or skills are needed – just wear comfortable sports clothes and bring a water bottle.

You need to sign up separately for each session, but registration is not binding. Welcome!

Participate only when sober. Do not encourage others to use substances outside of activities.

Let’s resolve issues together rather than talking behind people’s backs. Apologize when needed and be ready to forgive.

People come from diverse backgrounds and life situations. Some topics—such as substance use, violence, gender and sexuality, or politics—can be sensitive or make others feel unsafe.

Accept your losses with grace and be a fair winner. Clean up after playing, take care of shared materials, and make sure everyone gets a turn.

Homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, and any other discriminatory behavior have no place here. If you have questions, feel free to ask a facilitator for guidance.

Your friend is welcome to attend open activities such as Living Rooms and Game Fridays. However, activities that require registration and hobby groups (such as Climbing Wednesdays, Cosplay Corner, and excursions) are reserved exclusively for young adults from Vantaa. These groups have limited spots, and we cover participants' entrance fees and equipment costs.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept participants over the age of 29. Those who turn 30 while already attending can continue until the end of the current season. However, we don’t want anyone to feel left out, so we are happy to guide you towards similar activities available for those over 30. For example check out Kohtaus ry, Kulttuuripaja Kide, Young Adults' Living Room in Koivukylä (by HAR).

You can visit for an introduction before turning 18, but we cannot allow minors to fully participate. During your visit, we can show you the facilities, activities, and staff, so it’s easier for you to join once you turn 18. The minimum age for participation is 18 unless otherwise stated, such as in Vantaa Queer Space, which is open to those aged 16–29.

Until you turn 18, regional youth work is available to you, including local youth centers, where you can participate in activities before officially joining us!

Unfortunately, children are not allowed in our activities. Discussions and games in our groups may involve age-restricted content that is not suitable for children. We want all participants to feel free to engage in conversations and enjoy time in an adults-only environment. We recommend family-oriented activities or community centers, which are open to all ages.

Absolutely! We try to organize all activities based on participants' wishes and aim to fulfill as many requests as possible. In Tikkurila, we already have cabinets full of requested board games, and we have arranged numerous requested excursions. You can share your suggestions in person during activities, send us a message on social media, or contact us via phone or email. You can find our contact details at the bottom of this page.

All our activities are completely free of charge. We cover all expenses related to excursions, such as entrance fees and climbing gear rentals. For group excursions, we also arrange shared departures from Tikkurila and cover public transportation costs for those traveling with us.
