For experts in the fields of employment and integration
One of the objectives of Get Work Vantaa Yksi Get Work Vantaa project was to create and develop an operating model called Work First, which enhances the employment opportunities for English-speaking immigrants and supports employers in hiring English-speaking employees and in building diverse working communities. The operating model includes various employment-support services for employers and jobseekers.
The Work First operating model was developed using service design methods. The development work was led by Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Read a more detailed description of the operating model and about its design process from this article by Raija Kaljunen:
Speeding up the employment process for immigrants in Vantaa with the new Work First operating model (in Finnish)
Employment and career coaching services have been piloted in Vantaa during 2024. Alongside the operating model, a production model was designed. Read more about the practical implementation of the Work First model from this article by Raija Kaljunen:

Work First operating model will be gradually introduced into Vantaa’s employment services as part of the TE24 reform. During the project, we aim distribute the model more widely for employment services and other entities working in employment and integration in Finland.

Why is the Get Work Vantaa project needed?
Almost every third Vantaa resident is a foreign-language speaker. Of all the municipalities in Finland, Vantaa has the highest number of foreign-language speakers in respect of the population (29 %).
Many positions demand good proficiency in the national languages – Finnish or Swedish – which makes it more difficult for those who do not have fluency in those languages to find employment. In August 2023, there were altogether 6 274 foreign-language speaking unemployed job seekers in Vantaa.
According to a recent study, 81% of Finnish employees in 2023 say that they have difficulties in finding the employees they need. The lack of competent employees is regarded as one of the biggest hinders to the success of Finnish businesses. (Employment Outlook Survey, Q4 2023)
The Get Work Vantaa team helps employers and employees meet one another. The project workers support both the employer and the new employee at the beginning of employment. Special support is given for solving language and communication pain points on a practical level.
The career coaches of our partners – Laurea and Metropolia UAS – help our customers to develop their know-how to meet the needs of the labor market.
Basic information on the Get Work Vantaa project
Get Work Vantaa began in June 2023. The City of Vantaa is the leading partner, while Laurea and Metropolia Universities of Applied Sciences are the co-implementors. The project will end on May 31, 2025.
The goal of the Get Work Vantaa project is to find employment for 260 jobseekers and cooperate with 260 employer companies.
The project workers consist of three project managers (from the city of Vantaa, Laurea UAS and Metropolia UAS), project coordinator, seven recruitment advisors, a service designer (Laurea UAS), and two career coaches (Laurea UAS, Metropolia UAS).
The main goal of Get Work Vantaa is to develop an operating model called Work First. The operating model is developed together with clients of the project and other relevant interest groups. Laurea UAS is responsible for developing the operating model.
Employment services – services that promote finding employment – will be transferred from the government to municipalities, such as Vantaa, on January 1, 2025. The Work First operating model will then become part of Vantaa's employment services.
Another project, Kohtaanto +50, aiming to improve the employment of over-50-year-olds, began on June 1, 2023. The Kohtaanto +50 project and the Get Work Vantaa project progress side by side.
Get Work Vantaa is an ESR+ project co-funded by the European Union, with the City of Vantaa as the main implementer and Laurea and Metropolia UAS as sub-implementers.
