Introduction

Family day care is intended for under school aged children and it takes place in small groups in a home-like, easygoing environment. Family day care takes place in the childminder's home, in the child's home or in a specially designed group family day care center. A private childminder needs to have a basic course or vocational qualification of a childminder, or some other qualification in education and care. The group can have permanently four under school aged children in full-time care, including the childminder's own under school aged children. Although, a preschool aged child or a school aged child can be placed in a group for the afternoon.

The private childminder's working time depends on the children's requested hours of day care. Usually the working hours vary from 8 to 9 hours a day. The hours of day care are agreed be-fore the child attends day care. The day care fees are similar to the fees in day care centers. You can apply to family day care with a day care application.

There are both private and municipal family day care providers in Vantaa. For more information on the family day care providers, contact your district's director of day care center.
