Outreach youth work

Are you concerned about issues related to education and training, working life, housing, health, finances, personal relationships, or leisure time? 

We offer support and instruction for different kinds of life situations. The service is targeted at Vantaa youth aged 15 - 28 years who are primarily outside training and working life.   

We can help you:

• Plan your future
• Attain the services you need   

Our work is dictated by voluntariness and confidentiality. We work on the basis of the young person's information, given by the person in question themselves. Safer space principles are applied to our premises. Our service is free of charge.

This is how you can contact us:

• The young person himself/herself can submit a notification.
• A relative or friend of the young person can contact us with the consent of the young person in question.
• An employee is obliged to contact outreach youth work in case of suspension of upper secondary education studies, military service, or civilian service.

The purpose of individual work is to progress in accordance with the young person’s wishes. Individual work utilizes the young person's objects of interest and strengths, such as sport, gaming, creative methods, and outdoor activities.  

In individual work, we encounter the young on a face-to-face basis as well as online, according to the wishes of the young person in question. Examples of typical meeting places are Lento and Liito located in Tikkurila, cafés, libraries, nature trails, and the surroundings of the young person’s home. When required, we refer the young to the services they need.

Outreach youth work also offers small-group activities. The activities are primarily meant for the young involved in outreach youth work, but, when required, we can offer these activities to other young people and adults, too.

Our work is based on activities that have been planned together and derived from the wishes of the young. The participants in the groups overseen by outreach youth workers engage in playing, gaming, physical exercise, and making art. The groups mostly meet at Lento, but every now and then, they visit other local places.   

Digital outreach youth work constitutes an integral part of our work. We implement digital outreach youth work in live or chat discussions. Outreach youth workers also act on Discord Vantaan nuoret aikuiset server. Talking about gaming culture and social-media phenomena is also part of digital outreach youth work .

Participating in networks aims to increase recognition of outreach youth work, arouse interest and trust in youth work.  We are using the networks to directly and indirectly reach the young who would most benefit from our work. We try to increase awareness of phenomena affecting the everyday lives of young people and to meet the needs of the young by offering them functioning, multidisciplinary cooperation.  

We are available for meetings on Tuesdays at 12:00-16:00 in Ohjaamo in Tikkurila. No advance appointment required. We participate, on an annual basis, in drafts and offer our help and support for those of the draft-age by means of our Aikalisä (“Timeout”) activity.
