A family can receive private day care allowance from Kela to pay for private day care. This allowance can the paid right after the parental allowance term has ended. The allowance can be received for private day care, private family day care or a childminder hired for the family's home.

Private day care allowance comprises allowance and care supplement.

The child's parents can apply for this allowance through Kela. Kela pays the private care allowance directly to the private day care, privat
e family day care or a childminder hired for the family's home.

Legislated allowances and municipal bonuses decided by the City of Vantaa must are paid for private early childhood education and care.

Private day care allowance’s municipal bonus

For private family day care or a childminder employed by the family (in an employment relationship)

  • full-time early childhood education for a child under the age of 3 per month: €340.00 
  • full-time early childhood education for a 3–6-year-old child per month: €230.00 

For private day care centre or group family day care centre 

  • full-time early childhood education for a child under the age of 3 per month: €650.00 
  • full-time early childhood education for a 3–6-year-old child per month: €400.00  

Municipal bonus for early childhood education and care related to pre-primary education

The legislated private care allowance of a child participating in pre-primary teaching in accordance with the Basic Education Act is €65.61 per month, and the income-based care supplement in €32.12 per month. 

The private care allowance for early childhood education and care related to pre-primary education should be applied for via Kela. Kela will also make the decision on the municipal bonus based on the same application. In addition to applying for the private care allowance, the family must also pay for the service provider.
