Studies can be specialised in the City of Vantaa's general upper secondary schools. Four general upper secondary schools have a special focus in accordance with the national special duties and they offer an extensive course/study selection in different areas:
-the English-speaking IB Diploma Programme in Tikkurila upper secondary school
-natural sciences focused upper secondary school in Martinlaakso
-music and dance-focused upper secondary school in Vaskivuori
-English-language upper secondary…school education in Aviapolis upper secondary school

There are also opportunities to specialise in areas such as sports, theatre, natural sciences or media studies.

In a general upper secondary education with a special focus, student election process is influences not only by the basic education certificate but also by the student's proven interest in the subjects, language proficiency or the entrance examination or interview results.
