For Vantaa's Business Development services, it is very important to create networks and take part in how newcomers and other residents settle in and integrate into Vantaa.

How people settle down and integrate to Finland and their own living area has been a discussed topic lately. From various perspectives, it is important that people who move to Vantaa settle down successfully and enjoy living in their new hometown.

One important goal in the Economic Development services’ Talent Vantaa project is to increase the visibility and awareness of different services that are related to integration among newcomers. The idea is also to further develop a “welcoming” culture in the city.

For successful integration and for the development of a welcoming culture we need strong collaboration with different actors, for example early childhood education and immigration services all the way to companies, non-profit organizations and their services. That’s why we decided to have the Welcome to Vantaa Event.

What was the event all about?

Talent Vantaa project organized the event on Tuesday the 17th of January in Tikkurila’s library. With the Welcome to Vantaa event, we brought people together. We wanted people to be able to physically meet different stakeholders and representatives of different organisations. The participants could network with each other and enjoy some nice music and coffee and pulla.

At the event, a variety of city services and non-profit organizations (NGOs) introduced their activities and what they have to offer. Besides the information needed about different city services, people also tend to be interested in participating in the work of NGOs as well as different leisure time options (hobbies etc.). Doing volunteer work and having a rich social life helps people to settle down and supports their wellbeing.

Future work

We are aiming to cooperate in the future with the different city stakeholders and different non-profit organisations to keep up the good vibes! It would be nice to arrange the next event with professionals from a variety of fields to share ideas. The Talent Vantaa team has a strong belief in cooperation and co-development with different stakeholders.

We thank all the participants, non-profit organisations and the city services for their presentations and making the atmosphere so nice and warm. All stakeholders showed good commitment. It demonstrates that these kinds of events are needed.

All the participants who answered our feedback form said they would join the next event!
