Vantaa aims to ensure that every child and young person has the opportunity to find a hobby they enjoy, regardless of their family’s financial situation or other circumstances.

Activities designed based on children’s and young people’s wishes

The free hobby groups for children and young people of primary and lower secondary school age will start again in week 36. Among the nearly 300 hobby groups, there is a wide range of sports, arts, culture, science and technology activities for schoolchildren of different ages.

This autumn’s hobby selection has been planned based on children’s and young people’s own wishes and interests. Activities on offer include visual arts, coding, science clubs, skating and CrossFit.

Registration for the activities begins on Monday, 24 August, at 9:00 a.m. The hobby groups will begin their activities in week 36.

Hobby support also helps children and young people take part in fee-based activities

Vantaa also supports children’s and young people’s hobbies through a hobby support scheme. The hobby support for children and youth is intended for 7 to 17-year-olds from low-income families living in Vantaa.

With the help of hobby support, a child or young person can participate in fee-based activities, such as sports clubs or art schools. The aim of the support is to make meaningful hobbies possible even when the costs of participation would otherwise create a barrier for the family.

In 2025, nearly 900 children and young people received hobby support from the City of Vantaa.
