The City Council approved local detailed plans for the airport and Vantaa light rail
In its meeting on June 22, the Vantaa City Council discussed the city’s economy and entered for information the first interim report of 2026 as well as the framework for the 2027 budget compilation. During the meeting, the Council also approved the local detailed plans of the airport, Vantaa light rail and Pitkänsuontie in Ojanko.
With the alteration to the local detailed plan of Aviakuja at the airport, the current street area of Aviakuja will be extended up to Turbiinitie and a street area will be designated for the new bus traffic turnaround next to Turbiinitie by changing some of the airport area and local outdoor recreation area into a street area.
The alteration to the local detailed plan of Aviabulevardi and Turbiinitie prepares for the Vantaa light rail and its bridge by designating sufficient space for the infrastructure required by the light rail and the improved street environment. Space will be designated in the local detailed plan for the light rail and its related functions, such as vehicular traffic, cycling and pedestrian routes, green spaces, plants and stormwater solutions, by expanding the street areas and reducing other areas. The purpose of the alteration to the local detailed plan of Turbiinitie is to separate the street area from the airport area. This will enable a south–north road connection from Tikkurilantie to Ilmakehä.
The local detailed plan of Pitkänsuontie in Ojanko expands Vantaa Energy Ltd’s waste-to-energy plant and plot. The street area of Pitkänsuontie and the district border between Ojanko and Länsisalmi will be moved.
The Council meeting will continue. The agenda includes responses to council initiatives submitted by city councilors.
