City council ratified the integration plan and several local detailed plans
In its last meeting of the year, on December 11, 2023, the city council ratified the city’s integration plan for the years 2023-2026. In addition, the meeting ratified the alterations to city plans for Veromies, Varisto, Myllymäki and Jokiniemi competence campus, as well as the alterations to city plans related to Vantaa light rail in Jokiniemi, Kuninkaala, and Hakkila.
The whole city integrates
The Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration requires municipalities to compile an integration plan to promote integration and to boost multidisciplinary cooperation. Vantaa has had an integration plan since the beginning of the 2000s. Integration is of special importance to Vantaa, since already 25% of the city's population has a first language other than Finnish, Swedish, or Sami. The integration plan is based on the European Integrating Cities Charter that analyzes cities’ integration from the following four perspectives: City as a service organizer, City as an employer, City as a service purchaser, and City as a decision-maker and promoter of inclusion.
In addition, the meeting ratified the following local detailed plans:
Alteration to local detailed plan, Veromies, Muura's urban villages. The alteration to the city plan implements a cozy residential area, comprised of communal urban villages.
Alteration to local detailed plan and alteration to plot division, Varisto, Haravakuja 6 and Ulkoniitynpolku. Hoivatilat Oyj has applied for an alteration plan for Haravakuja 6 plot, so that it will be possible to build a service house. The new nursing home will form a courtyard that will be protected against street noise with the help of a sound barrier.
Local detailed plan, Myllymäki, Vehkala’s Kinkerit. The alteration to the local detailed plan makes it possible to expand the efficient, versatile, and public-transport-oriented Vehkala to the east in accordance with the current local grand plan.
Alteration to local detailed plan, underground local detailed plan, and alteration to plot division, Jokiniemi, Kuninkaala, Hakkila. The changes reserve sufficient space for the infrastructure required for Vantaa light rail and improved street environment.
Alteration to local detailed plan, plot division and alteration to plot division, Veromies, Tikkurilantie. Aerola will be turned into a forest city that respects the relationship between man and nature in the spirit of Alvar Aalto. The local detailed plan makes it possible to build two new residential city blocks, a sports field, and a daycare center.
Alteration to local detailed plan, plot division and alteration to plot division Jokiniemi. The competence campus, to be built in Jokiniemi, is one of Vantaa's key projects. The area will have an integrated urban environment for the competence campus and functions supporting it, such as workplaces, housing, and services.
