Decision making body: City Council
The city council is the highest decisionmaking organ of the City of Vantaa. The council is responsible for deciding on the city’s strategy, operations and finances. In addition, the council promotes the residents’ direct participation in the city’s operations and decisionmaking. The members of the city council and their deputies are selected at municipal elections that take place at four-year intervals.

Antti Lindtman to step down from his position as chair of the city council

Vantaa City Council decided in its meeting on May 22 on building Vantaa’s first light rail. Building the light rail can begin in the fall of 2024, and traffic is estimated to begin in 2029.

City Council assembled for its first meeting of the year
Vantaa City Council had its first meeting in 2023 on January 30. The meeting ratified the alteration to the local detailed plan for Viertola city block of high-rise residential buildings as well as designating an unbuilt industrial lot in Hakkila as overall development of the area.
