Vote on participatory budgeting ideas by April 28

News

All Vantaa residents aged 13 and over are entitled to vote. The ideas that gain the most votes will be implemented in 2024-2025.

In the participatory budgeting process in November 2024, Vantaa residents submitted over 2 000 ideas. They were bundled into 349 proposals, on which all Vantaa residents aged 13 and over can vote. The voting period is from April 1 to April 28.

A total of €1.2 million will be spent on implementing the ideas. The money spent on implementing ideas in Vantaa's major regions is based on the number of residents of each major region.

  • Aviapolis €105 000
  • Hakunila  €155 000
  • Kivistö €90 000
  • Koivukylä €160 000
  • Korso €150 000
  • Myyrmäki €300 000
  • Tikkurila  €240 000

This is how you vote

You can choose in which of Vantaa’s major regions you will vote. You can vote for several ideas as long as they fit into the budget allocated for the area in questions.

You can cast your vote either online or on paper in some of the libraries in the major regions.

You can vote online on the vantaa.fi/osbu website. In order to vote, log in with your own email, Google identifier, or Facebook identifier.

You can vote on paper at Myyrmäki, Tikkurila, Hakunila, Lumo, Mosaiikki, Point, and Koivukylä libraries.

Citizens' houses and Vantaa-infos will provide you with digi support for voting.

Why is it not possible to implement some of the ideas?

The city's experts have processed all the participatory budgeting ideas submitted by the residents and, among other things, compiled cost estimates for them. The majority of the ideas that were voted on have been edited in such a way that the original ideal has remained as unchanged as possible. Similar kinds of ideas have been combined, so that they would not compete with one another.

Some of the ideas were rejected if they did not meet the criteria given.

A rejected idea may have been, for instance, too expensive. For example, a swimming pool, an open-air swimming pool, or a dog park may be too expensive for the budgets of the major regions.

Even though some of the ideas submitted by the residents were rejected, they may have included important development proposals, and they will be accounted for in the plans the city will make over the next few years. All the ideas submitted were answered by experts. You can read the responses online on the vantaa.fi/osbu website.

Come and participate in making the ideas come true

When the voting result is final, the city invites residents to participate in joint development of all the approved ideas. In joint development, the residents and experts will together devise a more detailed project plan for the ideas.

You can participate in the development process either online or face-to-face. For example, during the Movers & Shakers Day event, children and the young get to together develop the ideas that concern themselves. Some of the approved projects may also be so complete that they do not need any joint development.

The city will implement the winning participatory budgeting ideas during 2024–2025. You can monitor the implementation progress online.
