The Kuntalaisaktivismia! event called on the people of Vantaa to make a difference
The Kuntalaisaktivismia! (Citizen Activism!) event, open to all residents of Vantaa, took over the Vantaa Town Hall on Wednesday 30 September, 2026. The event brought together hundreds of residents to discuss civic engagement and the city’s development. Visitors had the opportunity to ask the Mayor questions directly about matters concerning Vantaa. The event was hosted by actor Chike Ohanwe. Rap legend Kube was the guest performer.
The City of Vantaa organised the ‘Kuntalaisaktivismia! (Citizen Activism!) event to mark Citizens’ Participation Day. All residents were welcome to visit the Town Hall to find out about the ways in which they can have a say.
Decision-makers, elected representatives, party representatives and other Vantaa-based stakeholders were also invited to the venue to discuss issues and introduce themselves. Admission to the event was free.
Participants voted on the colour for the new Vantaa cap
The event offered residents the chance to discuss the development of Vantaa and to network. At the information stands, everyone could learn about decision-making or even practise voting by choosing the colour of the Vantaa cap. A total of 157 votes were cast, and the winning combination was pink and blue.
There were dedicated activities for children. Young visitors were able, amongst other things, to draw their dream playground.
The event programme also included a question-and-answer session with the Mayor, a panel discussion on the theme ‘Who gets to have a say?’, and an update on the Vantaa tram and the Tikkurila Competence Campus. Participants had the opportunity to meet decision-makers, party representatives and other stakeholders in an informal setting in the Town Hall foyer and outside.
Coffee, grilled sausages and hot soup were served in the tents in the outdoor area. In the spirit of the post-election tradition, the city offered coffee and buns to the first 200 people at the town hall.
The event was hosted by actor and artist Chike Ohanwe.
The event also featured a performance by Kube, the Finnish rap legend from Hakunila. Kube’s performance inspired the audience to join in.
