Procurement of the Tikkurila competence campus to be discontinued
The City Board of Vantaa decided at its meeting on 10 February to discontinue the procurement of the Tikkurila competence campus and to return the revised competition programme for further preparation.
The Mayor (City Director) proposed to the City Board that the procurement be discontinued, as no applications to participate had been received. In addition, the Mayor amended the original proposal regarding the approval of the revised competition programme during the meeting.
It was decided that the revised competition programme will be returned for further preparation.
The City of Vantaa launched the procurement process for the Tikkurila competence campus on 3 June 2024 by decision of the City Board. The process, an “investor competition 2,” aimed to find an investor and implementer for the construction project. However, no registrations were received during autumn 2024. Due to the downturn in the construction sector, real estate investors have perceived the project’s complexity and low occupancy rate as risks.
The competence campus responds to the needs of working life
A competence campus is planned for Jokiniemi in Tikkurila to be built between 2024 and 2032. The campus aims to address labour shortages and the changing needs of working life.
Construction of streets, pedestrian and cycling routes, and parks in the campus area has already begun. Once completed, the campus will serve students, businesses, jobseekers and employers. Located in a prime area, the campus will provide space for learning, services, businesses and housing.
