What do you think about the library? Open mic night at Myyrmäki and Tikkurila libraries
The library is the heart of the municipality – or is it? Come and consider the question at Myyrmäki and Tikkurila libraries’ open mic nights during which you have the chance to tell your opinions about library services directly to the people who decide on those services.
Vantaa's different districts will, in the future, undergo turmoil due to plan alterations, the arrival of Vantaa light rail, and various building projects. In addition, financing for and budget cuts affecting the field of culture give rise to lively discussion. What is the future of libraries in Vantaa? The library is for all the residents of the municipality, and now is your chance to make an impact!
Come to the open mic nights and tell us what the library means to you in our changing world and what you would wish from your local library in the near future. What library services are important to you? What, in your opinion, is the library’s role in Vantaa? What is currently lacking in your local library, or what would you like to improve regarding your local library? What are the things you absolutely do not wish to give up?
We have invited employees at Vantaa's cultural and library services to the event, as members of the audience. We have also invited representatives of different political parties to participate in the event. The Open mic nights are connected with the 2025 county and municipal elections.
The rules of the event are simple:
You can come to the stage by raising your hand, after which you can make an address of at maximum five minutes. You can prepare your address in advance or improvise. You can choose your own way of performing; you can recite a poem, perform stand-up comedy, sing, etc. – the choice is yours. The only requirement is that your address is about the library or literacy.
You do not have to perform; you can also participate as a member of the audience.

February 26 in Tikkurila library, music department, at 17:30:00–19:30, Lummetie 4.
March 5 in Myyrmäki library, event space, at 17:30–19:30, Paalutori 3.

The Open mic nights are meant for everybody, no advance enrollment required. Welcome!
The event is arranged in cooperation with Vantaa city libraries and Vantaa Cultural Services.
