Sami Ylisaari chosen as Vantaa’s new director of cultural services
Vantaa City Executive Board assembled for its last term meeting on June 2. In the meeting, the city executive board decided to propose to the city council that an election for the new council term's representative bodies—such as committees and divisions—be held. In addition, the meeting decided to enter the first interim report of this year and the framework for the compilation of the 2026 budget for the city council’s information. Furthermore, the meeting approved the needs assessments of Kivivuori and Tikkurila III daycare centers. Sami Ylisaari was chosen as Vantaa’s new director of cultural services by election.
The position of the director of cultural services was open for applications from March 25 to April 10, 2025. The position is permanent and filled in as of October 1, 2025. By the deadline, there were altogether 73 applicants of which 59 met the qualification requirements.
Sami Ylisaari (MA) has worked almost twenty years in the field of culture. For the past seven years, he has held the positions of a cultural services director in Järvenpää and Oulu. He, moreover, has experience in acting as a project director for a company specialized in consultation and communication in the field of culture. He has also acted as an operative manager in a cultural association.
The needs assessments of Kivivuori and Tikkurila III daycare centers were ratified
The 168-place Tikkurila III daycare center will meet the need for more early childhood education places in the rapidly growing Tikkurila, as well as replace the daycare center premises that will be removed from the area. The goal is that the new daycare center be ready to open its doors in 2028.
In addition, the 168-place Kivivuori daycare center is needed to replace the old Lintukallio pavilion, as well as to meet the rapid increase of children in the Myyrmäki major region. Building takes place in 2027-2028, and the new daycare center will be taken into use in June 2028.
