Vantaa aims to protect one tenth of the city's area
Vantaa establishes new nature reserves every year. This year, four new natural areas will be protected.
Vantaa’s goal is to protect ten percent of the city’s total land area by 2030. The city is already well on its way toward this target: currently, around 7 percent of Vantaa’s land area is protected, and the aim is to designate several new protected areas every year.
This year, four new natural areas will be protected, two of which are entirely new nature reserves: Syväojanmetsä in Luhtaanmäki and Ladaunmetsä in Petikko. In addition, two existing nature reserves in Vantaa will be expanded. The areas to be expanded are the Palokallio nature reserve in Kuninkaanmäki and the Lamminsuo nature reserve in Luhtaanmäki.
