Vantaa is home to a wealth of exciting places to visit, some of which may even be unknown to local residents. Among these are the Håkansböle estate and the Hakunila cultural and recreational complex, both of which will be in full swing this summer.

In June, Hakunila will welcome a Art Nouveau-style manor museum—unique in Finland—when the main building of the Håkansböle estate opens its doors. The new museum offers a deep dive into early 20th-century manor life at the Sanmark family’s home. What makes the museum unique is that the family no longer lived permanently at the manor after the 1940s, which is why the building and its interiors were not extensively renovated. Armas Lindgren designed both the manor house and its interiors and furnishings, and it is a blessing for future generations that these have been preserved largely in their original condition.

The opening of the manor’s main building marks the completion of the development of the entire Håkansböle estate. The park, café, children’s cultural center, and events make the area a diverse and inviting destination for visitors of all ages. In addition to the manor park, Hakunila offers many other interesting attractions. Laila Pullinen’s sculpture park and home museum has evolved in recent years into a truly unique cultural destination where art and the park’s stunning natural surroundings blend seamlessly. The adjacent Hakunila Sports Park and surrounding areas offer a wide range of recreational opportunities, from disc golf to swimming, horseback riding, and roller skiing. The nearby cultural landscapes of Sotungin invite you to go cycling and admire the rural scenery.

Hakunila is a fine example of how culture, exercise, and the local natural environment intertwine in Vantaa. The same lush nature unfolds throughout the city in the form of riverbanks, fields, groves, and meadows—you just need to step off the main roads and explore the surrounding areas. This summer, be sure to check out Vantaa’s diverse attractions!
