Private Family Day Care

Private family day care is a form of early childhood education, where the child's early childhood education is carried out in a small group at the home of the private childminder.

Introduction

The private childminder makes the decision on choosing a child for the group.

Private childminders are private entrepreneurs who have been approved as childminders by the City of Vantaa. Private childminders offer early childhood education in their own home. As with municipal family day care, private childminders are trained professionals. The City of Vantaa directs and supervises the activities of private childminders and provides guidance.

In private family day care, the family is responsible for arranging alternate care for the child if the childminder is ill or on vacation, for example.

As the service provider, the childminder providing private family day care can determine their own care fee. An early childhood education agreement is concluded between the private childminder and the family.

The family can receive private day care allowance from Kela and municipal allowance paid by Vantaa to pay for the fees of private family day care. The city does not provide service vouchers for private family day care.

Early childhood education service counsellors

Vantaa also has several early childhood education service counsellors ("palveluohjaaja" in Finnish). A service counsellor presents the various early childhood education options for families and helps them apply for a place in early childhood education.
