More extensive and functional premises for a total of ten cultural and leisure services are planned for the Myyrmäki Urban Culture House.

The services will be located in two buildings, the working titles of which are Oivallustentalo and Elämystentalo. Oivallustentalo will be built first, and it is planned to open in 2029. The construction of Elämystentalo will begin only after the completion of Oivallustentalo. The project also includes the renewal of the Paalutori area between the buildings.

Two buildings, ten services

More extensive and functional premises for ten cultural and leisure services are needed in Myyrmäki. The new premises will house:

Oivallustentalo is for hobbyists

The first phase of the construction project, under the working title Oivallustentalo, will be a place for hobbies and insights, inspiring people to learn and try new things.

The building will have facilities for the Vantaa Adult Education Institute, Vantaa Art School, Vantaa Music Institute, Vantaa-info and Children's Cultural Center Toteemi. In addition, the building will have a youth center, citizens' house and movie theater. The building may also act as temporary premises for the current library during the construction of Elämystentalo.

Oivallustentalo will be built at the address Iskostie 5 on the so-called Monttu property, where there used to be a health center. Oivallustentalo will extend all the way to Paalutori and will thus be located in the immediate vicinity of Kilteri school and Kilteri daycare center, within visual range of Virtatalo.

Experiences and encounters in Elämystentalo

The second phase of the construction project, under the working title Elämystentalo, will be a place for experiences and encounters, where there is always something interesting to see or experience.

Elämystentalo will have facilities for Vantaa Art Museum Artsi and the library.

The area's local detailed plan became final in January 2026. See the local detailed plan here. (in Finnish).

The construction of Elämystentalo will begin only after the completion of Oivallustentalo. Elämystentalo can be implemented either by constructing a new building to replace the Myyrmäki House or by expanding the Myyrmäki House. According to the current plan, the building would be taken into use in 2032.

Residents involved in planning

The participation of residents, staff and, among others, the area’s organizations in the planning of the urban culture house has been important since the very beginning of the project. Interaction with residents will continue. There are a wide variety of opportunities for participating in the planning of the operations, services and facilities of Oivallustentalo.

he views of residents have been heard in 2023–2025 through resident events, interviews and an online survey that reached nearly 2,000 respondents, among others. In addition to these, there have been workshops and discussion sessions for associations and organizations that provide services. During the project planning phase, participation will continue with a resident panel and dialogs with associations.

Paalutori and the center’s public areas

Paalutori will be renewed as an outdoor event venue that ties the buildings together into the unified Myyrmäki Urban Culture House.

The planning of Paalutori and Iskostie is part of the ongoing downtown Myyrmäki plan. The plan will include a master plan for the public outdoor spaces that will guide the street plans and coordinate the blocks, which are being implemented in different phases, into a seamless whole.

The goal is a greener and more comfortable city, squares suitable for events and community activities and a good station environment. The downtown Myyrmäki plan and planning of the public areas will proceed to decision-making in 2026.

With the urban culture house project, the renewal of downtown Myyrmäki will take a big step forward. The development has been under way for a while now, but with the new premises, the streets and squares of the center can be finished.
