Transfer of vehicles

The City of Vantaa has the right to transfer incorrectly parked, abandoned, and cleaning-hindering vehicles, as well as scrap vehicles.

Introduction

Incorrectly parked vehicles can be transferred if they cause detriment or appear to be abandoned. As required, a vehicle can be moved to the other side of the street, to a nearby street, or to the vehicle transfer center.

The transfer decision will be mailed to the owner and holders of the vehicle marked in the Suomen liikenneasioiden rekisteri ("The Finnish Transport Register"). Transferred vehicles are also publicly announced on the City of Vantaa's website.

What to do if your vehicle has been transferred

If you cannot find your vehicle, you can ask about its location by calling Parking Supervision's customer service. You can inquire about recovered vehicles by calling 09 8392 4191 (weekdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, except Thursdays from 12 PM to 2 PM). You can also check the public notices concerning transferred vehicles on the City of Vantaa's website.

You can fetch your car that has been transferred to the depot after paying its transfer, administration, and storage fees. You can pay the transfer fees either at Tikkurila Vantaa-Info or at Myyrmäki Vantaa-Info.

The storage fees will be raised at the beginning of each seven-day period. If a vehicle has been transferred to the depot because of at least five unpaid valid fines, these fees must be paid to the city when redeeming the vehicle.

Only the owner, holder, or a person authorized by them can redeem the vehicle.

The customer redeeming the vehicle must verify their identity, as well as their ownership or holder right to the vehicle to be redeemed. You have to verify your identity with a photo-ID or a passport. Ownership or possession right is verified with an up-to-date registration certificate.

In case of a vehicle registered abroad, you must present the original registration document that specifies the redeemer’s ownership or possession right to the vehicle in question. When redeeming a vehicle registered under a company name, the company’s trade register extract, which specifies the company’s signatory powers, must also be presented.

If the registration or other documents required for redeeming the vehicle are in the transferred vehicle, pick them up at the transfer center before transacting at Vantaa-Info.

If the owner or holder cannot themselves redeem the vehicle, they can authorize another person to redeem the vehicle on their behalf. For this, a power of attorney is required. Enter the authorized person’s name and identity number and the issues the authorized person can do with the power of attorney. The person giving the power of attorney must themselves sign the power of attorney.

The owner or holder of the vehicle is charged for the close transfer and administrative costs.

In case of a vehicle transferred to the deport, the owner or holder of the vehicle is charged for the transfer costs according to the service provider's price list.

In addition to transfer costs, € 60 (VAT 0%) will be charged for every beginning week for storing vehicles weighing at max 3.5 tons, and € 120 will be charged for every beginning week for storing vehicles with a total mass of over 3.5 tons. In addition,  € 60 will be charged as administrative costs.

After paying the transfer costs at Vantaa-info, you can pick up the vehicle at the transfer center. The transfer center’s address is Hanskalliontie 6, Vantaa, and it is open on weekdays from 8:00 to 15:30.

The customer redeeming the vehicle must verify their identity with a photo-ID. Before arriving to redeem the vehicle, call 050 346 3227 to speed up the process.

The city will gain ownership of transferred vehicles, if:

  • a vehicle transferred to the depot is not fetched within 60 days from the date the owner is notified of the transfer decision or
  • the owner is deemed to have given up their right to the vehicle.

Vehicles transferred to the city's ownership will be auctioned at Kiertonet.fi.

For more information on vehicles for sale, please call 050 346 3227.

The owner can, if they so wish, hand over their ownership right to the vehicle to the City of Vantaa. Giving up the ownership right will not, however, release the owner of the vehicle from the costs that the city has incurred before gaining ownership right to the vehicle in question.

If you wish to give up the ownership right to your car, deliver the vehicle’s fully filled-out registration certificate (technical part and notification part), as well as the keys, to the City of Vantaa's Parking Supervision.

You can also deliver the documents and keys to Vantaa-info personally. The date of handing over the vehicle is the day when the required documents have arrived at Parking Supervision.

Parking Supervision's address is: Pysäköinninvalvonta, PL 315, 01030 VANTAAN KAUPUNKI.

Public notices (in finnish) opens in new window, links to another website Public notices concerning transferred vehicles are published on the city's decisions website.

Submitting a vehicle transfer request

You can ask for a vehicle to be removed from private property by submitting a vehicle transfer request. Be sure to carefully fill out the entire form.

A vehicle transfer request can be submitted by an authorized representative of a private property, for instance, the owner or manager of the private property, or the chair of the board of the housing cooperative.

You must absolutely fill out all the parts of the form, so that the transfer can be legally carried out.

If the vehicle to be transferred has license plates, the person submitting the transfer request must first contact the owner or holder mentioned in the vehicle register. If the owner or holder will not transfer the vehicle, the city’s parking supervision may ask that the vehicle be removed.

If the vehicle has been parked on a designated parking space, the situation of the holder of the designated parking space must first be clarified, before the parking supervision is asked to transfer the vehicle.

The contact information of the person submitting the request must be available for potential additional information.

When asking for a vehicle transfer, the billing address must be clearly marked in the request form. Parking Supervision will bill the person submitting the request, if the owner or holder of the vehicle will not redeem the vehicle in question.

Since the ownership right to the vehicle is transferred to the city after 67 days of the transfer, it is possible that the landowner or real estate possessor will be billed for the transfer costs after this.

Vehicle removal request e-form (digiloikka.fi) opens in new window, links to another website Only transfer requests submitted on this form will be accounted for. Be sure to carefully fill out all the parts of the form.
